Kids' Classes

Each Spring and Fall, Camp Joy contracts with a local charter school to teach classes for homeschooled children. One day a week for six weeks, kids arrive to learn about growing and preparing food, seed saving, bees and other insects, garden crafts and much more. Besides teaching kids about farm living, the classes provide an opportunity for the kids and parents to meet, socialize and develope friendships within the community.

In addition to the classes for the homeschoolers, Camp Joy gardeners also lead tours for groups of children from local public elementary schools. The walk around the garden is a sensory experience: tasting, touching, smelling, listening and seeing; with stops at the greenhouse, honeybarn, goat pasture, flower beds, compost piles and others. After touring the farm for an hour or so, groups often stay to have their snack or lunch in the center of the garden.
