Vision

The following statement was written by our Board of Directors in 1997 and continues to define and guide our work.

Camp Joy is a thriving community providing a model for an alternative future, a trial ground to experiment with, develop and practice organic techniques and explore related philosophies and ideas. It is a place that provides continuity of inspiration and experience while incorporating new visions well aligned with the base already established.

  • Sustainable farming and living within a community of permanent gardeners and apprentices
  • A model small family farm
  • Educational creative programs nourishing people's bodies, minds and spirits

  • Camp Joy is a beloved force in the San Lorenzo Valley whose residents support and appreciate it as an antidote to a technologically driven life; a center that demonstrates that human impact on the earth can be positive; a fertile ground where children and adults can seek and find magical and enriching experiences.

    Camp Joy provides:

  • Wholesome, healthy food and beautiful flowers
  • A source of inspiration grounded in respect for the cycles of the earth and acknowledgment for the changing seasons
  • A model of balanced living, working playing and learning
  • An example and encouragement for others who wish to begin another such farm

  • In order for the model to be sustainable, Camp Joy needs to maintain its fertile soil and provide well for all those who live and work there:

  • Financially, including retirement considerations for those taking long-term responsibility for day to day functions
  • Appropriate living conditions in sufficient space
  • Rest and recharge time for permanent residents

Camp Joy draws in interested members who engage in rich learning experiences, contribute to the care and life of the land and community, and then go forward to create models of stewardship in their local communities.
